HATT RECEIVES TAX
CREDIT AWARD FOR GRIFF KING PROJECT FROM TEXAS
DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
The Housing Authority of the
City of Texarkana Texas was just approved for an
award of low-income housing tax credits through
the Texas Department of Housing and Community
Affairs. This award will make it possible for the
Housing Authority to move forward with the final
multi-family phase of the HOPE VI grant to
demolish and redevelop Griff King Courts.
This year’s tax credit
allocation round was especially challenging, and
HATT was not sure we would be awarded an
allocation, even though we were the top scoring
application in the region. However, with the
support of a number of people from Texarkana,
including Senator Eltife and Councilwoman Willie
Ray, we were able to convince the state that the
Griff King project was worthy of an award.
We now enter the next phase
of the redevelopment – relocation of the residents
and demolition of Griff King. We anticipate a
90-150 day relocation process beginning September
1, and hope to have all residents relocated by
December 31, 2011. Once the residents are
relocated, we will begin with demolition. Our goal
is to begin construction in early summer of 2012
on the new RoseHill Ridge.
Thank you to everyone who has
and continues to support the Housing Authority.
Without your support, we would not be where we are
today.

histories, neighborhood memorabilia and print
materials for a collection focusing on
residents of Stevens Courts, Covington Homes

Rose Hill residents.

would like their history to be included in the
project can contact Tarisha Duson or Charlotte
